Lodge & 4x4 Game-Drive SafariFor those pressed for time, this two day, one night safari packs in two of Tanzania's most beloved national parks. You'll have the chance to see the Big Five and plenty more as you travel to these two wonderful parks.
Tarangire National Park, home to Tanzania's largest elephant population, is a fascinating park during the dry season when the Tarangire River becomes a vital source of water for animals throughout the region. As vast herds of wildebeest and zebra move to the river to replenish, the park's lions, leopards and hyenas capitalise in a dynamic display of nature's cruel beauty.
It's then on to the world-famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where cape buffalo, rhinoceros and hippopotamus can be spotted amid the caldera's verdant plains. A picnic lunch by the hippo pool is a rare treat, allowing you to have a meal within a few dozen feet of these intimidating herbivores.
The first day of your safari will begin by 8am in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. Once everyone is aboard, you will head towards Tarangire National Park. The 150km drive will be covered in about 3 hours. The national park is extremely famous and special for its diverse landscape and nine different vegetation zones. As you begin your game drive, you will be welcomed by the ancient and gigantic Baobab trees, which make even animals like the giraffe look tiny.
The game drive goes on till about late afternoon and includes a small stop for a picnic lunch. The 3,000 sq km park gets its name from the Tarangire River that flows through it. The river attracts a lot of diverse animals and you should be able to spot elephants, giraffe, lions, antelopes and zebra.
If it's your lucky day, you might be able to spot the tree-climbing python and the long-necked gerenuk. Tarangire National Park has the highest concentration of elephants, which offers a unique chance for you to observe interactions between elephant families. Don't forget to keep your camera ready. After the game drive, you'll head back to your camp/lodge for a delicious dinner and a good night's sleep ahead of tomorrow's adventure.
On this day of your safari you will have an early start. After a quick breakfast, you'll make an early descent at around 6:30am into the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, with a floor of about 260 sq km and a depth of over 2,000 feet. The 5-hour game drive on the crater floor will show you plenty of animal action — keep the camera ready.
The African elephant, buffalo, Black Rhino, hippo, hyena, cheetah and lion are found in plenty here. After a picnic lunch at the beautiful hippo pool, you'll begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4-hour drive left to Arusha, where you'll be dropped off at your preferred location by 6pm. Accommodation for the trip can be arranged at extra cost.
